Born in 1928 in Holland, where he was also taught by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld from the 'De Stijl' group at the Royal Academy of the Hague; he later studied 'Produktform' at the Hochschule für Gestaltung of Ulm in Germany under other famous teachers like: Max Bill, Walter Zeischegg and Tomàs Maldonado.

In Italy he started working at his profession as a designer with Ettore Sottsasss at the Olivetti company; he opened a studio in Milan (now at Gavirate) in 1965, and then designed various products with his wife Hiroko Takeda. He has won many awards, among them a Golden Compass Award in 1976.

He teaches at the Milan Polytechnic, at the Florence and Rome ISIA and is a Guest Teacher at various Universities abroad.
He takes part seminars and conventions and has published various books and articles on industrial design.
